SpaceX Starship Completes First Orbital Flight Test

SpaceX has launched its massive Starship rocket for its fourteenth test flight today. Company officials describe this vehicle as the most powerful launch system ever created. Unlike previous missions, this flight aims to achieve a major milestone by sending the spacecraft into a full planetary orbit for the very first time.

Until now, every single Starship flight has been suborbital. Those earlier capsules reached space, but they did not travel long enough to complete a full loop around our planet. Most past tests lasted approximately one hour. However, today is different because the mission is planned to last for ten hours.

During this extended journey, the spacecraft aims to complete six orbits around Earth. Afterward, it will descend and splash down in the Pacific Ocean to the west of Chile. In the future, SpaceX intends to use this powerful vehicle to transport crew and cargo to the Moon, Mars, and beyond, with a goal of carrying up to one hundred people on long interplanetary journeys.
